How long do each type of hair extension installation or fitting last?

There are so many hair extensions out there, all with their appeals and advantages. Just as we have different extensions, there are different installation methods and the different methods determine how long your style will last.

We’ll be telling you how long the different hair extension installations last

Clip-in Hair Extensions

Clip-in hair extensions come with clips that get attached to your natural hair and can be unclipped whenever you want. This installation method is very convenient but also long-lasting.

Clip-in hair extensions last between 3 and 6 months at a time with proper maintenance, detangling, and moisturizing. If you don’t wear them every day, you can use and re-use your hair extension for a whole year. However, due to their convenience, most people remove them every few days.

This extensions can be easily installed by yourself so we do not offer an installation service for them but we do offer very high quality clip-ins in our sister company Azul Hair Collection.

Weft Hair Extensions

Weft hair extensions are hair strands sewn either by hand or machines onto a track or a weft. These extensions are used for wigs, ponytail extensions, and sew-ins, and they are sewn in and removed when the time is due.

Most weft extensions are removed and replaced every two months, but can even go longer depending on the style. Weft hair extensions can last for 6 months to 1 year.

Tape-in Hair Extensions

These extensions are attached to the hair strands using tape by adhering the tapes to the roots of your natural hair in a process that’s fairly quick.

Tape-in hair extensions need reapplication between 4 and 8 weeks because they begin to loosen. With maintenance and reapplication, they last between 4 and 6 months.

Microlink Hair Extensions

Microlink hair extensions use small beads to attach extension strands to your natural hair.

Microlinks last a long time with proper maintenance and can last between 10 and 12 weeks before they need to be reinstalled.

You’ll need to replace the bead used to secure the extension every time you need to reinstall it, but the hair will last up to a year with proper management.

Fusion Hair Extensions

Fusion hair extensions are small extension hair strands glued to the roots of your natural hair using a keratin bond to hold them in place.

Fusion extensions last for an average of 5 months, but you’ll need to have the extensions adjusted by your hair stylist every 2 to 3 weeks.

The overall longevity of your fusion hair extensions depends on the installation process, your hair type, and your management. However, if everything is done right, 5 months is about the right time that your hair extension will last.
